So we’re on week 4 of the holidays now , sorry for the lack of updates…holidays are a pretty busy time for us and I just haven’t had the time or mental capacity to actually write anything! Yesterday we decided to try a bit of Vlogging….you can watch our first video here…
We visited Shiremoor Adventure Playground for a session just for children with additional needs and we had a great time. Toby took a bit of time to come round as it was somewhere new and he’s been finding the holidays challenging but we had lots of fun.
Shiremoor is about 40 minutes from our house (10 mins from the Tyne Tunnel if you’re a bit closer than us) and was well worth the journey. There’s lots to climb on and explore, bikes, scooters, multi sports area, allotment with some chickens and a lovely community cafe – only 50p for a toast too! The equipment is all free to use and is managed by The Shiremoor Adventure Playground Trust and North Tyneside Council. There’s also a main building, kind of like an old Sure Start Centre with toilets, activity spaces and the cafe.
You can find more info on and times of various activities on their website http://www.shiremooradventureplayground.org And from what we understand the Additional Needs session is usually on a Sunday between 12:30-4:30pm in term time. As you can see from our video, the session that we went to yesterday was lovely and quiet = perfect for children who get overwhelmed in busy places. Play sessions are a bit different during the holidays so I would ring first or check their Facebook page (Shiremoor Adventure Playground Parents Page)
We’ll definitely be back!
